Geriatrics Advanced Practice Program

Please listen to a video message from our director, Dr. Claudia Beverly.

The purpose of
Geriatrics Advanced Practice program is to strengthen academic-practice partnerships to prepare an inter-professional geriatric primary care workforce for practice in rural and medically undeserved areas.

The GAP program provides education and training for academic-practice partners in:

  1. Care of Older Adults
  2. Inter-Professional Education using Telehealth and other Technologies
  3. Clinical Education Principles for Preceptors
  4. Knowledge and Understanding of Culture of Health focused care, especially in Rural Areas in Arkansas

Our challenge is to recruit, retrain, and retain expert inter-professional geriatric clinical preceptors in rural areas. This will improve learning experiences of Advanced Geriatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP) students for practice readiness in under-served, rural environments. We also aim to recruit NPs in these rural areas currently trained in other specialties to complete an AGPCNP Post-master’s Program or a Gerontological Certificate Program to enhance their clinical expertise.
