Biographical Info Mindy Simonson, ScM, CGC Melinda (Mindy) Simonson completed her bachelor’s degree in cell and molecular biology at Colorado State University in 2002. She then joined the Peace Corps in 2003 and taught junior high school level math and science and worked with people living with HIV/AIDS for two years in Cameroon. After returning to Colorado, she worked as a substitute teacher for another year, and then entered the genetic counseling training program at Johns Hopkins University and the National Institutes of Health in 2006. Her graduate thesis focused on challenges and opportunities for genetics research in developing countries. After graduation in 2009, she came to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences to provide prenatal genetic counseling to a diverse range of patients, as well as coordinate the Arkansas State Health Department maternal serum screening program. In 2014, she was recruited to the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at UAMS to provide clinical genetic counseling to patients with hereditary gynecologic cancer and assist in developing and carrying out cancer genetics research studies. Her focus of interest is improving access to genetic services for underserved populations. |
