Title of Program: Care of the Bone Marrow Transplant Patient – Early Complications

Program Overview:  Interprofessional BMT staff are not aware of changes in current evidence-based practices. Experts in the field have requested monthly, live seminars in order to provide information including research, evidence-based practice, and basic knowledge related to the care of the BMT patient. 

Knowledge Gap: 
The purpose of this activity is to educate healthcare providers with the most up-to-date information on Early complications following Hematopoietic cell transplant.

Target Audience
The target audience includes all healthcare professionals such as physicians, nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals who would like to learn about Early complications following Hematopoietic cell transplant and how it pertains to their respective profession.

  1. Identify early complications in their BMT patients by the end of the activity
  2. Understand how to develop a treatment plan for the BMT patient that has early complications by end of the activity.
  3. Identify drugs used to treat different grades of GVHD by end of the activity.

Biographical Info
Muthu Veeraputhiran, MD

"Dr. Muthu Veeraputhiran is a physician in the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Department of Internal Medicine. Dr. Veeraputhiran received his medical degree from the Stanley Medical College in his native India. He went on to receive a Masters of Public health from the University of Oklahoma. He then completed residency training in Internal Medicine at Abington Memorial Hospital in Pennsylvania. He has also completed fellowships in Transfusion Medicine at UAMS, Hematology, Oncology, and Bone Marrow Transplantation at Wayne State University, and Bone Marrow Transplantation at Stanford University. Dr. Veeraputhiran is board certified in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology from the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation, the American Association for Blood Banks, the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Society of Hematology, and the American Society of Oncology"
