Biographical Info Puru Thapa, MD Purushottam Thapa, M.D., a professor in the UAMS Department of Psychiatry, is the medical director of the UAMS Student Wellness Program. A former section chief and staff psychiatrist at the Arkansas State Hospital, Thapa completed the Department of Psychiatry’s residency program in 2002. During his 14 years at the Arkansas State Hospital, Thapa received numerous honors, including the College of Medicine’s Red Sash Award (voted by graduating seniors who influenced them the most during their four years of medical school) 12 times, the Golden Apple (the Best Teacher Award from junior medical students) seven times and the Department of Psychiatry’s Emile Eckart Award (for the outstanding teacher in residency education) three times. He also received the College of Medicine’s Master Teacher Award in 2006 and the Chancellor’s Faculty Teaching Award in 2007. |
