Title of Program: Care of the Bone Marrow Transplant Patient (Series 2017) CAR-T Cells, Session 4, Series 2017)

Program Overview:  Interprofessional BMT staff are not aware of changes in current evidence-based practices. Experts in the field have requested monthly, live seminars in order to provide information including research, evidence-based practice, and basic knowledge related to the care of the BMT patient.

Knowledge Gap: 
The purpose of this activity is to educate healthcare providers with the most up-to-date information on Care of the Bone Marrow Transplant Patient CAR-T Cells.

Target Audience
The target audience includes all healthcare professionals such as physicians, nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals who would like to learn about Care of the Bone Marrow Transplant Patient CAR-T Cells and how it pertains to their respective profession.

Objectives

1. Evaluate and establish patient/family needs and develop a patient specific plan of care in regards to understanding CAR-T cells.
2. Recognize different treatment options that affect CAR-T cells.
3. Implement safe plan of care for patient affected by CAR-T cell therapy.

Biographical Info
Dr. Appalanaidu Sasapu is a hematologist and oncologist at the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He is also an Assistant Professor in the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology.

Dr. Sasapu received his medical degree from the Andhra Medical College in India. He completed graduate medical training at King George Hospital. Dr. Sasapu did his Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Centre, New Orleans. He also served a fellowship in Hematology and Medical oncology at UAMS.

Dr. Sasapu is board certified in internal medicine and has received his Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification. Dr. Sasapu founded a charity called Health, Education, and Living for the Poor (HELP) in his home town in India. This organization conducts medical camps, sanitary awareness programs, and advocates disease prevention strategies. The organization also built a library and gym for local school students. He was also involved in running homeless and free care clinics when he lived in New Orleans.
