Program Overview:
The purpose of this activity is to educate medical professionals on Sleep Safely Little One: A Hospital's Continued Journey in Infant Sleep Safety.

 


Objectives:
  

  1. Describe experience and process for implementing an updated safe sleep policy.
  2. Discuss information on ACH's current activities related to SIDS/SUIDS prevention in the community.
  3. Discuss reflection on lessons learned and present future considerations.

 

Speaker Bio:

Ellen Mallard began her career at ACH in 2003 as a pediatric patient care partner on the postoperative and surgical units. She has been a neonatal ICU nurse since 2004. She has been a frontline RN for 8 years prior to becoming a clinical educator. Ellen returned to graduate school in 2013 to pursue an advanced degree as an acute care neonatal clinical nurse specialist. She completed her degree, licensure, and certification in 2015. Since that time, she has worked to impact outcomes and elevate the care of critically ill neonates along the continuum of care while operating within the 3 spheres of CNS influence (patient/family + nurse + organization).

Betsy Borecky is a Clinical Education Specialist at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.  Betsy began at ACH in 2003 as a patient care tech in the Neonatal ICU and was a frontline nurse for 8 years before becoming a clinical educator.  Betsy has been a Clinical Education Specialist for 2 years and is dual certified in Nursing Professional Development and Neonatal Intensive Care.

Lessa Payne is the Infant Mortality Prevention Coordinator through the Injury Prevention Center at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.  Lessa earned a BS in Psychology/Sociology from the University of Central Arkansas at Conway and has 30 years of experience working in Prevention with at risk youth.  Lessa facilitates Safety Baby Shower training across the state and serves on Safe Sleep and Period of Purple Crying Task Force at Arkansas Children’s Hospital
