Knowledge Gap: 
The purpose of this activity is to educate healthcare providers with the most up-to-date information on Preventing Respiratory Viral Healthcare-Associated Infections.

Biographical Info

Dr. William Matthew Linam is an Associate Professor of Pediatric Infectious Diseases in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He has served as Medical Director of Infection Prevention and Hospital Epidemiology at Arkansas Children's Hospital (ACH) since 2012. Through is work, the Infection Prevention Department has been able to fundamentally transform ACH's approach to reducing healthcare associated infections (HAIs). Projects that he has helped lead have improved healthcare worker hand hygiene, adherence to isolation precautions, healthcare worker influenza vaccination and reductions in healthcare associated viral infections in the neonatal intensive care unit. Dr. Linam has served on the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) Education Committee since 2013 and while on the committee, assisted in the development of an online training course for adult and pediatric infectious diseases fellows. He also served on the Planning Committee for the SHEA 2016 Spring Meeting. Dr. Linam is currently Co-Chair of the Planning Committee for the SHEA 2017 Spring Meeting. 

Kelley Garner is the Program Coordinator and Epidemiologist for the Healthcare-Associated Infections Program at the Arkansas Department of Health.  She has a Masters of Public Health degree with a concentration in epidemiology from UAMS and has been a certified Medical Laboratory Scientist, previously known as Medical Technologist, for eight years.  In her role at the department of health, she is charged with promoting the prevention of healthcare-associated infections and implementing antibiotic stewardship statewide, coordinating the activities of the HAI Program, and providing oversight and technical support for data collected using the National Healthcare Safety Network.
