Knowledge Gap: 
The purpose of this activity is to educate healthcare providers with the most up-to-date information on Sickle Cell Disease: Hydroxurea, Transfusion Therapy, and Iron Chelation Therapy.

Target Audience
The target audience includes all healthcare professionals such as physicians, nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals who would like to learn about Sickle Cell Disease: Hydroxurea, Transfusion Therapy, and Iron Chelation Therapy and how it pertains to their respective profession.

Objectives

  1. Define the role of hydroxurea and its monitoring parameters in the management of sickle cell disease.
  2. Explain the indications and contraindications of transfusion therapy in the sickle cell patient.
  3. Apply the initiation and management of chelation therapy in the sickle cell patient.

Biographical Info

Collin Montgomery is a certified Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner.  Currently, she works with the Adult Sickle Cell Team at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences to provide inpatient and outpatient care to those affected by the disease.
