Knowledge Gap: 
The purpose of this activity is to educate healthcare providers about the Pharmacology of Smoking Cessation.
 

Target Audience
The target audience includes all healthcare professionals such as physicians, nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals who would like to learn about the Pharmacology of Smoking Cessation and how it pertains to their respective profession.

Objectives

  1. Recognize nicotine product attributes that are implicated in drug-drug interactions.
  2. Describe how ingestion of tobacco products impact medication levels.
  3. Analyze and apply techniques to manage medication therapy when a person stops smoking cigarettes.

Biographical Info
Julie C. Kissack is Professor and Chair of Pharmacy Practice in the College of Pharmacy at Harding University College of Pharmacy (HUCOP). She joined the HUCOP faculty in 2008 as the college was preparing to enroll its inaugural class in the fall of 2008. Since her appointment, she has been actively engaged in development and implementation of the College on this University campus, which is committed to the tradition of liberal arts and sciences.

In 1987, Dr. Kissack received her Pharm.D. degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Pharmacy. She completed a post-doctoral Residency in Psychiatric Pharmacy Practice and an ASHP Research and Education Foundation Fellowship in Psychiatric Pharmacotherapy at the University of Tennessee. In 1989, she joined the faculty of Mercer University Southern School of Pharmacy and continued that appointment until she joined HUCOP. In 1996, she became board certified in Psychiatric Pharmacy. The American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) recognized and honored Dr. Kissack as a Fellow of ACCP in 2012.

In addition to service at clinical practice sites, community settings and college and university committees, she has a lengthy history of serving the profession of pharmacy. She has actively engaged in several professional organizations including the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, ACCP and the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists. Dr. Kissack has served on the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties Psychiatric Pharmacy Specialty Council committee – as a member and as a chair. Her current areas of research interest include outcomes research in psychiatric pharmacy practice and tobacco prevention, intervention and cessation.
