Introduction to Hospice

Program Overview:
In this presentation, the speaker gives an overview appropriate hospice usage and referral.

Objectives:  

  1. Understand regulatory criteria for access to hospice.
  2. Recognize patients that meet criteria.
  3. Understand levels of hospice.

Speaker Bio:

Neal Wyatt, DO graduated from Oklahoma State University Health Sciences Center College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed a residency in Family Medicine.  He is board certified in Family Medicine with a certificate of added qualification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.  He is an Associate Adjunct Clinical Professor in the Department of Geriatrics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences where he participates in teaching medical students the basics of hospice and palliative medicine practice.  He also assists in the hospice training of the palliative medicine fellows with the UAMS Palliative Medicine Fellowship program.  He recently received an appointment as Assistant Professor of Family Medicine with the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine at their Arkansas State University campus in hope of providing resources and training in palliative medicine to a new generation of osteopathic physicians who will be serving the healthcare needs of Arkansans in the near future.                                                                                                                                             l

Dr. Wyatt has been on the medical staff of Arkansas Hospice since 2006 and served as the Vice President and Chief Medical Officer from 2007 until November of 2014.  He now provides clinical services to the organizations home-based patients and is helping pilot a new inpatient palliative care consult services in partnership with Unity Health White County Medical Center in Searcy, Arkansas.
