Program Overview: This presentation will give an overview of the basic pharmacology of opiods, and their appropriate and safe use in the palliative care population. |
Objectives: - Review the basics of opioid prescribing.
- Review how to use the WHO ladder in opioid decision-making.
- Discuss common side effects of opioids.
- Review DEA and Arkansas Board of Medicine regulations.
- Demonstrate understanding of opioid prescribing with practice problems.

Speaker Bio: Sarah Harrington, MD, FAAHPM is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the UAMS Department of Internal Medicine, in the Hem/ONC Divisoin. Dr. Harrington is also the Medical Director of the UAMS Palliative Care Program, and Chief of the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System's Palliative Care Program. |
