Pharmacist-Led Collaborative for Antimicrobial Stewardship- Part 2

At the end of this activity participants will be able to:

  1. Convey the necessary steps to your administrators for establishing and maintaining an antibiotic stewardship program (ASP) at your hospital.
  2. Recognize the value and improved patient outcomes associated with a well-established ASP.
  3. Develop a plan or ideas for improving or maturing the ASP at your hospital
  4. Demonstrate the value of a procalcitonin-guided ASP
  5. Summarize national efforts to promote antimicrobial stewardship and monitor antibiotic resistance; and how the Arkansas
  6. Department of Health is planning to participate and incorporate national efforts Into state level efforts.
  7. Describe the Arkansas Department of Health's priorities as It relates to antibiotic stewardship and current/upcoming activities to address these issues.
  8. Relate how hospital antibiotic stewardship Initiatives fit Into statewide antibiotic stewardship initiatives.
  9. Identify strengths and weaknesses of the clinical pharmacy program at BHMC- NLR as related to antimicrobial stewardship.
  10. Recognize critical components of antimicrobial stewardship programs, anticipated outcomes, and consider those which can most positively impact patient care
  11. Compare and contrast common biomarkers, clinical presentation, and other laboratory tests used in the evaluation of patients with bacterial infections• Analyze case studies to recognize how procalcitonin, other biomarkers, clinical exam, and clinical processes can assist in early recognition, risk stratification, and the antimicrobial management of patients
