Program Overview:

This program trains nurses to provide first aid in a non-clinical, community setting.



At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to

  1. Provide basic first aid in a non-clinical, community setting.
  2. Identify the steps used to assess a sick or injured person in a non-clinical, community setting.
  3. Manage unconscious adults, soft tissue injuries, muscle/bone/joint injuries, and ineffective respiration.


Speaker Bio:
Cheryl Schmidt, PhD, RN, CNE, ANEF, FAAN is a recipient of the Florence Nightingale award for nursing and is a disaster response instructor.  She is an Associate Professor of Nursing at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and has been a Red Cross nurse since 1974. She trained 180 RNs for work in shelters after Hurricane Katrina and continues to develop nurse education to prepare RNs for mass casualty events.
